Forgot that the tags are foils. Forget the mention of epoxy, it's the sticky gum on the foils causing problems. The only reason I didn't show up on time was that I decided it would be better to wait until I could witness a shift change and actually see the problems as they occurred. I had no idea a supervisor would be there and was under the impression this wasn't a "serious" visit but more of a casual maintenance visit in which I would only interact with the armory guys. THE TAGS USED ON THE PISTOLS REQUIRE FOIL. Are they using any? *Dover had specifically decided NOT to use epoxy at all. Somebody must have changed their mind. ***Is the epoxy being applied to METAL or PLASTIC? 3) > general shoddy craftsmanship used for the antennas Antennas were mounted with zip ties INTENTIONALLY, so they can MOVE if hit accidentally. They are right next to the window. What is your suggestion for antennas? 4) External monitor is a hardware issue. it was NEVER included in any proposed installation. touch screens can NOT support external monitor - no external video port monitor outside would have to take freezing weather 5) Signature pad Not sure if it is possible to show a list of items. I hope you are very careful in the words you use when discussing with Dover. They are designing new features that: do not currently exist were never discussed were not included in the proposal require new hardware never proposed Eric, your thoughts? Sounds like we need to have a reality check with Dover. H On Sat, Dec 31, 2011 at 12:20 AM, Mike Kolb wrote: Hugh, They do not want a scheduling system. They want a better tracking screen. They just want to organize the method of transfer differently. Instead of dynamically creating a transaction via RFID scans they want to start with an already known transaction and validate it using RFID with the potential to add/subtract items. Each post has a transaction associated with it at each shift change. This is the nature of how the system works at Dover regardless. The post has a set of items associated with it that are required for that post regardless. The armorer will always know ahead of time who will be at that post. The items associated with that Airmen are already known. Since the shift change will cause a transaction on each post and it is known who will be at those posts and what items they will have we should be able to use that information as a starting point, create a list, and check off items from it as they are scanned and validated on a per user basis. Same concept as the tracking screen but instead of tracking items we are tracking post transactions. More specifically we are tracking a set of items associated with a post and an Airmen but not the entire shift-change transaction as it were. I think the tags used for pistols may not be ideal and they might be the root cause of the scan problems. I asked the armorer the last time I was at Dover to create a list of these items that either didn't scan or were stray scans but they did not. I had hoped that if this were done I could easily see which weapons weren't scanning, which were, where stray scans are, etc. I cannot find a correlation since the reader is reading tags multiple feet away from the antennas with no problem, it must be a tag issue. Maybe the tags are getting damaged as ammo clips are loaded/unloaded repeatedly? The chosen tags also do not seem to be able to withstand wear and tear like they should since they are falling out randomly. Cold weather? One thing that was pointed out about the installation was the general shoddy craftsmanship used for the antennas. They do not at all like the use of zip ties nor do they like that the antennas more or less dangle in the wind. They need some sort of way for Airmen to validate that the items being checked off are indeed the items they are receiving. Either an external monitor or a scrollable list on the signature pad. Currently Dover is under the impression that they bought a Cadillac and what they got was a Honda. Those are mostly their words. My numbers are different from Mike's. 1) Lidar change requiring Certification is COMPLETED and Tested. 2) Mike sent a Java Console showing an ERROR finalizing a check-out, in the logic that checks to see if user is getting a weapon assigned to someone else. ERROR is intermittent. Turns out ERROR occurs, freezing check-out, if weapon is not assigned to anybody. Bug is already fixed, but not tested, so NOT sending to Dover today. Mike will need to return. 3) Epoxy failing on pistols. > Tags are falling off of weapons. Tags inside the pistols are coming loose and falling out. They need 100 spare tags to be sent in. no idea why the epoxy isn't holding up. They were originally using FOILS ONLY. I was not aware of epoxy use. I did give them cans long ago of epoxy that also failed at Aventura. 4) THEY WANT A POST SCHEDULING SYSTEM. > Would like to "pre-game" a shift change. I have explained in earlier emails. Mike is trying to simplify, using queues, but I am not optimistic. This could be BIG - a scheduling subsystem. They are saying we did NOT provide what was sold to them, which is of course incorrect. They want to streamline. We can TWEAK, but scheduling system seems out of scope. There may be a simpler approach that will work. 5) Some items are NOT scanning. Mike tested and can not identify cause. 6) I do not know if signature pad can DISPLAY list of items. I tried to display a simple logo and got nowhere. Displaying ALL the items seems impossible without a larger device, and there is NO ROOM at the window for that??? 7) They want RETURNS to show all items checked out by default. Currently we display only what is scanned, but CHECK for all items returned at end of transaction. This seems like a minor change. 8) > This information also needs to be visible to the Airmen returning the items for validation purposes. This requires an OUTSIDE MONITOR, in freezing weather. The touch screen pcs do NOT support a second monitor! Not sure how we could do this. Possibly 2 more monitors hung off the server??? but that is not wonderful. Eric - you need to GO THERE, with Mike, and possibly me. This is SNOWBALLING. We did not sell what they are asking for. Mike will send more details. There are null pointers being thrown at the end of a transaction causing the transaction to fail. Log attached. Issues at Dover: 1. Would like the signature pad to display a list of issued items for validation by the airmen receiving those items. Then sign to complete issue. 2. Would like to "pre-game" a shift change. I have explained in earlier emails. 3. Upon a return they would like to see a window that displays all of the items that person currently has checked out in picture format. Then as the items are scanned they get removed from the display or checked off. This information also needs to be visible to the Airmen returning the items for validation purposes. 4. I cannot figure out why certain items are not scanning consistently. Some items scan fine at a distance and others seem to need to be waved repeatedly. I have asked for Dover to create a list of these anomalies as they occur in order to get a better picture of what might be happening. Both readers are setup and reading tags but some items aren't caught. 5. Tags are falling off of weapons. Tags inside the pistols are coming loose and falling out. They need 100 spare tags to be sent in. no idea why the epoxy isn't holding up. Mike
